LONDON: PC giant Acer has named Honcho PR to handle its UK PR activities, including comms support for its 2012 Olympic Games sponsorship.

The account will be led by Honcho co-founders Amanda Slayton-Joslin and Charlotte Priest, in conjunction with independent comms consultant Shaun Wootton, who recently left his role as GM at Waggener Edstrom. The business, estimated in the low six-figure range, was previously handled by PK Media.

The team is charged with raising Acer’s brand profile in the UK and taking full advantage of the company’s sponsorship of the London 2012 Games and Paralympics.

Reporting to Acer UK head of marketing Linda Hassall, Honcho PR will focus on targeting consumer, trade and education audiences. Wootton, meanwhile, will concentrate on supporting Acer’s commercial and channel communications.

According to Gartner, Acer ranks fourth in global PC market share. The Taiwanese company ranks fifth in the UK, having dropped from second spot in 2010. It has been overtaken by Toshiba and Apple, who now sit behind perennial market leaders HP and Dell.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to be working with Acer and partnering with the team to take the brand to the next level,” said Charlotte Priest, Honcho PR. “It’s also great to be partnering with Shaun again after all these years.”

Slayton-Joslin, Priest and Wootton previously held senior roles at independent firm Herald Communications, which was eventually acquired by Fleishman-Hillard.
