CASABALNCA—“#ProTestHIV” from Anglo-American with Ogilvy Public Relations Johannesburg—a campaign showcasing the mining giant’s leadership in the fight against AIDS and HIV in South Africa—took home the Platinum SABRE Award for the best African public relations campaign of the year at the first African SABRE Awards dinner in Casablanca last night.

The campaign beat out four other finalists for the Platinum SABRE Award:

  • Ford—Ford with Burson-Marsteller Morocco
  • Making Nuclear Necessary: South African Campaign—Rosatom with Instinctif Partners
  • NextGenFactor: Fishing for Talent—PwC Mauritius with Blast Burson-Marsteller
  • SA Tomorrow—Johannesburg Stock Exchange with Hill+Knowlton Strategies

“The five finalists for Best in Show demonstrate the quality and the breadth of work in Africa,” said Paul Holmes, chair of the SABRE judges, who presented the trophies. “From brand-building to public affairs and issues management, from financial communications to CSR to employer branding, from South Africa to Morocco to Mauritius, these campaigns provide a glimpse into the future of PR in Africa—and that future is bright.”

The SABRE Awards ceremony was held during the African Public Relations Associartion conference in Morocco.
