LONDON—UK PR firm Bell Pottinger has made a number of staff redundancies at its London office, the Holmes Report has learned.

Bell Pottinger CEO James Henderson told the Holmes Report that "around 10 people" have been let go, but declined to provide specific details. He said that the staffers came from "all levels" and across the firm's business in London.

Henderson described the move as "a little bit of streamlining and restructuring" to "ensure we have industry-leading margins."

"We obviously review our cost base to ensure it’s working for us," said Henderson. "We continue to invest in new talent as well but continually review for operational efficiency."

Bell Pottinger reported fee income of £33m in 2014, up 14.2% on the year before. The firm employs 180 of its 280-strong global workforce in London.

Henderson added that yesterday's departure of group MD David Wilson was not linked to the round of layoffs. He also noted that the firm remains committed to investment in new talent, focusing in particular on such areas as international; corporate/brand; political/regulatory; financial PR; overseas government work; and digital.

"We need to ensure we continue to focus on efficiencies and we have the right people for growth," said Henderson.

The firm has also hired former Maitland vice-chairman Liz Morley as a partner, focusing on corporate.
