MOORESVILLE, NC — Ben Boyd — who left a 14-year Edelman career for a global BCW role last year — is leaving the agency world to join retailer Lowe’s as head of communications.

Boyd will join the home improvement chain as VP of internal and external communications starting Oct. 26, reporting to chief brand and marketing officer Marisa Thalberg.

Boyd will lead corporate communications and community relations strategies, with a particular emphasis on boosting brand awareness and corporate reputation. He will oversee roughly 50 employees in Lowe’s public relations, employee communications, corporate events, digital content and community relations functions.

Boyd replaces Dan Frahm, who left the company last year.

Boyd’s move comes roughly a year after his departure from Edelman to become BCW’s first global chief strategy and operations officer, as which he was charged with working with global CEO Donna Imperato in managing all aspects of BCW in its push for growth, including strategy, operations and client development. During his lengthy career at Edelman, Boyd served as the firm’s chief client strategy officer and practices and sectors president.

BCW will not be replacing him, a spokesperson said.

Said Imperato: “I am so happy for Ben for this fantastic opportunity. Ben joined us a year ago and has been a good partner to me and to our colleagues. Joining the client side of communications will fit his skill set very well, and we wish Ben the best of luck in his new role.”
