Last week saw the announcement that social networking giant Facebook had bought photo sharing network Instagram, for the eyebrow-raising sum of $1 billion.
Instagram has become a major hit since its launch in late 2010, attracting more than 30 million users, who upload 5 million new pictures every day.
Unsurprisingly, news of the deal sparked a torrent of online conversation. Analysis from Meltwater Buzz reveals more than 100,000 online conversations on the date of the announcement, as demonstrated by the infographic below.
Much of this activity centered on Twitter. Sentiment was predominantly neutral, but there was a significant note of disapproval. This came largely from Instagram users, worried that Facebook will ruin the simplicity of the app.
