CHICAGO — Casper’s Ice Cream, the century-old company behind brands like FatBoy and Jolly Llama, has handed its PR business to Spool, which is charged with driving awareness of its products nationwide.

Spool was named Casper’s PR agency of record following a competitive review. There was no incumbent agency.

Casper’s partnership with Spool comes as the company prepares to scale its brands for national distribution. Spool will be spearheading earned creative strategy to drive brand awareness and affinity for its signature brands — FatBoy ice cream sandwiches and Jolly Llama, a line of frozen yogurt and sorbet products. The agency also will be working with Casper’s ad agency, Cover 3.

“We are thrilled to embark on this new chapter alongside Spool as we look to expand our footprint in the ice cream space,” said Casper’s CMO Reed Damon. “Spool brings a wide range of capabilities in terms of creativity, media relations, and storytelling, which will ultimately help us drive our objectives and goals as a brand.”

Casper started in 1925, when founder Casper Merrill started making ice cream using milk and cream from the family cows. Today, the Richmond, Utah-based company is run by Merrill’s grandson Paul.
