LONDON — Claire Dixon, who has led communications for major Silicon Valley technology companies for the past eight years, is returning to London to take up a new post as group head of corporate affairs, brand and marketing for Standard Chartered bank.

Dixon was latterly chief communications officer at Intel, which she joined in 2019. She had moved to San Francisco from the UK in 2013 to take up the role of VP corporate communications at eBay, where she rose to become global comms lead before moving to VMware as SVP and chief communications officer.

After leaving Intel in November, Dixon was succeeded by technology communications lead Tara Smith

Before her move to the West Coast, Dixon had held senior global and regional corporate and consumer communications roles at GlaxoSmithKline and Unilever. She started her career agency-side at Weber Shandwick.

Dixon joins Standard Chartered's group management team and replaces Tracey McDermott, who will now focus solely on her position as group head, conduct, financial crime and compliance.

Standard Chartered CEO Bill Winters said: “I’m delighted to welcome Claire to the Bank. She will bring a different perspective to our internal and external communications, help drive the Group’s narrative and brand as we focus on continuing to improve the Bank’s performance, and work with the team to continue to deliver innovative, imaginative and inspiring campaigns.”

In a LinkedIn post, Dixon said: “This past year has provided new and unexpected challenges for many of us. It has offered tremendous opportunities for growth, both professionally and personally; triggered quests to find the positives in difficult circumstances; and above all, reflect on what is truly important.”

She added: “I am delighted to be joining Bill and the team for the next stage of the company’s transformation journey. Standard Chartered has such a strong story to tell; from its passion for customer success, diverse global footprint and culture, and its core sense of purpose as a company that is ‘here for good’. I look forward to working with the team to enrich and deepen our engagement with clients, employees and shareholders around the world.”
