HOUSTON—Oilfield services company Baker Hughes has hired Andrew Backover as vice president of communications. Backover, most recently vice president of communications for American Airlines, will oversee global internal communications, media relations, social media and crisis communications. He joined AA in 2006 as director, financial public relations and publishing, and recently led the airline’s internal and external communications, social media, magazine publishing and community programs teams through its restructuring, rebranding and merger with US Airways. He served as director, corporate media relations, at AT&T from 2004 to 2006, and was previously a reporter for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, The Denver Post, and USA Today.

BETHESDA, MD—Lockheed Martin has appointed Dan Nelson as vice president of worldwide media relations, reporting to Jennifer Whitlow, senior vice president of corporate communications. Nelson will serve as the corporation's chief spokesperson, counsel senior executives on media engagements, and be responsible for global media relations outreach. He joins the company from General Electric's digital energy business, and earlier served as a spokesperson at the US Justice Department, US Commerce Department and the White House.

WHITE PLAINS, NY—Entergy has named Andy Katell as vice president of communications for the company’s northern US nuclear power business. Katell reports to Entergy vice president of corporate communications Necole Merritt. He joins after 10 years as a senior vice president at GE Energy financial services.

LOS ANGELES—Vubiquity, a leading global provider of multiplatform video services, has appointed Michele Edelman as executive vice president of marketing and communications. Before joining Vubiquity, Edelman was VP, worldwide direct-to-consumer marketing in the home entertainment division of Warner Bros. Studios. Prior to that, she served as VP of worldwide marketing, programming and acquisitions for Warner Bros. Digital Distribution.
