MIAMI—Cable & Wireless Communications has appointed Grace Silvera as director of communications and culture, based in the company's Miami office and reporting to CWC chief executive Phil Bentley. She will be responsible for all group communications, both internal and external, and will lead the group's new culture program. Silvera was previously the regional vice president, marketing and corporate communications for CWC's LIME business, based in Jamaica. She has also worked for Diageo (Red Stripe) and for the Jamaican Government as the executive director of the Jamaican Cultural Development Commission.

MONTERREY—Mexican cement giant Cemex has named Maher Al-Haffar executive vice president of investor relations, corporate communications and public affairs. He was most recently a managing director of corporate finance at Cemex and before that held positions at Banco Santander and Citibank.

FAIRFAX, VA—Playa Hotels & Resorts has appointed Karen Callahan as director of global marketing and public relations for Playa Resorts Management, its operational management component.  Callahan joins from Splash Direct Marketing, where she was the founder and principal of a B2B marketing and sales consultancy for the travel industry.  Prior to starting her own firm, Callahan was senior director of marketing for Regent Seven Seas Cruises.

DALLAS—Main Event Entertainment, a family entertainment center, has appointed Sherri Landry as the new vice president of marketing. In this role, Landry will lead brand strategy and marketing as the company accelerates its national expansion efforts across the US. Landry has worked with Procter and Gamble, Sara Lee, Pizza Hut, a division of Yum! Brands, and most recently TGI Fridays, where she was the senior director of brand management.
