WASHINGTON — Global innovation and crisis leader Patrick Hillmann has departed Edelman to join Binance as its first chief communications officer.
“Very excited to announce that I've joined Binance, the world's leading #blockchain ecosystem and #cryptocurrency exchange, as their new Chief Communications Officer. The last two and half years at Edelman have been the most rewarding years of my career and have set me up well to tackle what will no doubt be one of the most exciting challenges I've faced,” Hillmann wrote in a LinkedIn post.
Hillmann will be responsible for leading Binance’s global communications and public affairs division, which includes overseeing corporate communications, public affairs and media relations. He will also work with Binance’s compliance and security leaders.
Hillmann has been with Edelman for the last two-plus years, most recently serving as global head of innovation, crisis and risk. Hillmann’s in-house experience includes serving as the National Association of Manufacturers’ VP of public affairs and advocacy and GE’s director of public advocacy, government affairs and policy.
Hillmann’s move to Binance comes as the company faces mounting scrutiny from regulators in countries including the Cayman Islands, Singapore, the UK and Japan, according to Coindesk. Watchdog groups have alleged Binance is operating in those countries without government permission, Coindesk reported.
