MENLO PARK — Facebook's Christina Smedley has joined the Robinhood as the company's first CMO, tasked with consolidating marketing, communications and content under one function.

According to an announcement on Robinhood's blog: "Christina will create a new marketing family, bringing marketing, content, and communications together, and establishing new teams across functional areas including product marketing and brand strategy."

Smedley will report into co-founder and co-CEO Baiju Bhatt. As a member of the executive leadership team, she will also work alongside the rest of the leadership. The Next-15 agency OutCast works with Robinhood.

Robinhood is a trading platform founded in 2013 that positions itself as a way to "democratize finance for all." The company recently announced it doubled its Q2 trading revenue, reaching $180m.

Smedley joined Facebook in 2015. Most recently, she was VP of brand and marketing for Novi, a digital wallet for the Libra blockchain payment network. Before that, she crafted the Messenger communications strategy, including rolling out the products and services to new audiences. She also led communications at PayPal and held senior positions at Edelman.

“Robinhood is already well-loved and has enormous potential, and it truly helps people do more with their money and take control of their financial destinies,” said Smedley. “With so much changing around us, building a brand enabling this sort of empowerment and connecting with our customers - especially those who can really thrive from it - is beyond exciting.”
