BRUSSELS--Logistics giant FedEx has concluded its European PR review by shifting UK and Ireland comms duties to Spider PR, the agency formerly known as SPA Way.
Former UK incumbent Ketchum Pleon retains FedEx’s EMEA mandate. The decision comes following a competitive review that saw global AOR Ketchum defend the two briefs, worth an estimated £250,000 in total - as revealed by the Holmes Report earlier this year.
A FedEx spokesperson confirmed the two decisions. Spider PR begins work on the UK and Ireland remit today. The agency rebranded under its new name earlier this year, in a bid to reflect a stronger social media and research capability.
Both briefs required agencies to provide strategic counsel, crisis consulting, media relations, media training, internal comms and CSR support. In addition, the UK and Ireland brief called for the successful firm to run the FedEx press desk, monitor local media and handle all local media relations.
The EMEA brief, meanwhile, asked agencies to coordinate FedEx’s local agency network across relevant markets. The contracts will run for two years.
FedEx Express is the world’s largest express transportation company, covering more than 220 markets worldwide. In 2006, it acquired UK courier company ANC Holdings, rebranding it as FedEx UK in 2007. Parent company FedEx Corporation is worth almost $38 billion according to its most recent results.
