NEW YORK — PRSA New York has named NBC News’ Al Roker the recipient of the inaugural Daniel J. Edelman Big Apple Award for Social Impact.

The new award, which PRSA-NY created in partnership with Edelman, recognizes a public relations or media industry leader who demonstrates a commitment to improving society.  The annual award also commemorates Edelman founder Daniel J. Edelman’s contributions to the global communications industry.

“Al Roker is the ideal recipient of this inaugural award because he embodies the values and principles that Dan Edelman founded our firm on,” said Edelman global CEO Richard Edelman.

Known best as the NBC Today show’s weatherman, Roker has an expanded role with the morning news show, which includes hosting the third hour of Today and a SiriusXM radio program. CEO of Al Roker Entertainment, Roker has served as executive producer on numerous TV programs as well as social impact videos and content for nonprofits. He also has written 13 books.

Roker will be formally honored Sept. 22 at PRSA New York’s annual Big Apple Awards gala.
