LONDON — Payments company Flywire has appointed B2B technology agency CCgroup to lead its public relations efforts in the UK, after a competitive pitch.

Flywire, headquartered in Boston, processes billions of dollars in secure transactions every year for businesses around the world, as well as the education and healthcare sectors, and has been shortlisted by Forbes as one of the most innovative fintech companies of 2019.

CCgroup will work with the fintech’s US partner, Walsh Group Marketing, and Asia partner, The Ate Group, to raise awareness of Flywire among influencers and support sales leads via an integrated marketing communications programme including earned, paid and shared tactics.

Flywire director of marketing Raela Ripaldi said the payments sector was undergoing particular challenges: “Thanks to fintechs, making payments has become much easier. In particular, cross-border payments used to be slow, expensive and difficult to use. Today consumers can quickly find an app or website with good exchange rates that’s easy to use.

“Unfortunately, while the payer’s problems are being solved, the receiver’s problems are mounting. Allowing consumers to use their payment option of choice is one thing, being able to accept, track, risk manage, and reconcile myriad disparate, global transactions is quite another.”

On CCgroup’s appointment, she said: “The UK is the epicentre of fintech, and especially cross-border payments. In such a crowded and competitive market, we needed a PR agency with a strong track-record of rapidly building brand awareness and driving sales leads. CCgroup has quickly demonstrated it can combine creative strategies with concrete implementation to meet our business objectives.”

CCgroup’s head of fintech Daniel Lowther added: “Flywire recognised that institutions collecting payments were experiencing a world of pain which was genuinely inhibiting their businesses. To address this issue, the company is re-modelling the payments value chain so it works for both sides of the equation. As Flywire opens a new chapter in Europe, we’re excited to be telling its story and ensuring the company received the recognition and rewards its unique approach deserves.”
