NEW YORK—Scott Sykes, who previously headed global media affairs for Chinese tech giant Huawei, has joined Burson-Marsteller as MD of the firm's US technology practice.

Sykes takes on the New York-based role after departing his role as international media affairs chief at Huawei three months ago, as revealed by the Holmes Report.

“Scott has an extensive background building strategic communications campaigns in the technology sector, and his international experience will inform his counsel to our clients,” said Pat Ford, Burson's Asia-Pacific chairman and chief client officer.

While at Huawei, Burson-Marsteller was one of Sykes' key PR firm partners. Before joining the tech company, he worked at Alcatel-Lucent and Weber Shandwick China.

“I am humbled and honored to join Burson-Marsteller and look forward to helping the firm’s clients develop high-stakes communications strategies that will lead to action and drive measurable business results,” said Sykes.

Sykes arrival at Burson follows the hire of Rowan Benecke, another executive with considerable Asian experience, as global tech chair.
