NEW YORK, November 9—Hill & Knowlton has formed a new higher education asset group offering specialized communications expertise to universities and colleges in the areas of crisis communication, issues management and long-range planning.

“Much of a school’s reputation—and financial health—depends on the success of its communications plans,” says Tom Hoog, president and chief executive officer of Hill and Knowlton USA.

Senior managing director and former Chicago Tribune reporter Sallie Gaines will lead the group from the agency’s Chicago office. H&K’s experience in the field includes working with Indiana University during last year’s deliberations over whether to retain basketball coach, Bob Knight; providing crisis simulation training for U.S. Air Force Academy; and creating long-term strategic plan for the University of Tampa and the grand opening of the new School of Business.
