BRUSSELS — Hanbury Strategy has strengthened its EU public affairs team with a number of senior hires, as the company continues to grow its practice in Brussels.

Tom Denney (pictured) has joined Hanbury as a partner, having previously been director and head of technology policy at BCW in Brussels. Before that, he was director of strategy and communications at Teneo. Denney will work closely with the head of Hanbury's EU practice, Sander Schol, to grow the company’s digital policy and public affairs offering.

Schol said: “I’m delighted to welcome Tom, whose experience and expertise will be valued by our clients, and whose leadership will strengthen our digital offering. Our ability to attract senior hires of this quality reflects the great work of our team, and our growing reputation for providing first rate policy analysis and insight.”

At the same time, Teresa Pais and Paul Alix have been appointed as associate directors. Pais has held roles in Lisbon and Brussels, most recently managing the team at Portguese lobbying firm Political Intelligence. Alix joins from the GSMA, the mobile network operator trade association, where he was EU affairs manager.

The firm has also made a series of promotions in its senior team. David Garcia-Falaux, who joined the consultancy in August 2021, becomes a director in the digital team, whilst Finn Meunier is now a director in the financial services division. In addition, Maria Elena Sandalli has been promoted to associate director after one year at Hanbury.

Hanbury has grown its EU public affairs team by 50% this year to support client wins across the digital and financial services sector; the Brussels practice is set to increase revenue by 60% this year compared to 2021.
