NEW YORK — Johnson & Johnson has launched a PR agency review for skincare brands Neutrogena and Aveeno, PRovoke Media can reveal.
The pharmaceutical and consumer goods giant is looking for an agency to handle the brands’ lucrative consumer business in the US and is several weeks into the pitch, according to individuals familiar with the process. The account is estimated to be worth seven figures.
Health and beauty agency Rpr currently handles consumer PR work for Neutrogena and Aveeno, among other J&J beauty brands. Shop PR and Marina Maher Communications also are among J&J’s PR agencies.
Neutrogena and Aveeno did not respond to request for comment.
J&J is reviewing the brands' PR support as it wrestles with major reputational crises for the wider company, including legal cases allegedly tying Johnson's Baby Powder to cancer. The company’s pharmaceutical arm, meantime, has been embroiled in lawsuits: last year, an Oklahoma court ordered J&J to pay $465 million for its role in the state’s opioid epidemic.
In 2018, both Omnicom and WPP created dedicated teams dedicated to the networks' J&J business, including advertising, called Velocity and Neighborhood respectively. These were disbanded the following year.
