NEW YORK, May 9—Dan Klores Communications has resigned as public relations agency to boxer Mike Tyson, according to an Associated Press report.
While the resignation followed a Tyson press conference during which he told a female reporter that he did not normally do interviews with women “unless I fornicate with them,” it was not immediately clear what triggered the decision. Most observers considered Tyson’s remarks at the press conference par for the course for the controversial fighter.
Tyson also told reporters he wished they had children so he could kick them in the head or “stomp on their testicles so you could feel my pain, because that’s the pain I have waking up every day.” Those remarks echoed a statement he made prior to a fight last year, when he said he would like to eat his opponent’s children.
Tyson’s manager said the fighter believed such remarks were good for the box office of his upcoming fight against Lennox Lewis, which will be shown on pay-per-view television. Klores, which has represented Tyson since his infamous biting of Evander Holyfield during a championship fight in 1997, and stuck by him through two rape charges and several ugly episodes in and out of the ring, apparently disagreed.
