LONDON — Luciana Berger, the former MP who joined Edelman as managing director of advocacy and public affairs last year, is moving on to an in-house role.

Berger is joining fast-growing rapid grocery delivery firm Gopuff, which last month expanded into the UK from its base in the US, as head of corporate affairs for Europe in the early part of 2022.

Gopuff, which was valued at $15 billion after raising $1 billion in July this year, has recently made a stream of acquisitions, including UK instant delivery players Fancy and Dija.

In a statement, Gopuff said “hiring top-tier local talent is one of our strategic priorities to enable sustainable growth across the region” and that Berger would be “part of the team helping to deliver Gopuff’s proven strategy of creating a local footprint and experience for customers and partners”. She joins other recent senior executive hires as the firm expands in Europe, including from Revolut and Amazon.

At Edelman, Berger specialised in health, food and drink, climate change and energy policy. Co-chief executive of Edelman UK Hugh Taggart said: "We thank Luciana for her contribution to the firm. She will continue to lead the Edelman Global Advisory team in the UK until her departure, and we are searching for a new leader."

Before joining Edelman in July 2020, Berger served as the Liberal Democrat member of parliament for Liverpool Wavertree for almost a decade. In her time as an MP, she secured a number of legislative changes and held various shadow ministerial roles, including energy and climate change, public health and mental health, as well as being the party’s health, social care and wellbeing spokesperson.

On her appointment, Berger said: “I am really excited to be joining the Gopuff team to lead European Corporate Affairs. I have experienced Gopuff's energy and ambition first hand. As the market leader in the US, eyeing further expansion across the region, I have no doubt the business will continue its growth journey in 2022 and beyond. I can’t wait to be part of it.”
