SINGAPORE--Matthew Lackie has been promoted to lead Waggener Edstrom Asia-Pacific, following David Ko’s decision to leave the firm for a sabbatical next year.

Ko leaves his role as executive vice-president seven years after selling his Hong Kong PR firm to Waggener Edstrom and taking over leadership of the agency’s regional operations. Under his guidance, Wag-Ed has expanded from three to 10 offices in Asia-Pacific and delivered impressive revenue growth.

The Holmes Report named the firm 2012 Asia-Pacific Technology Consultancy of the Year, but Ko has broadened the offering substantially beyond technology, into consumer, healthcare, corporate and digital.

“One of the perks of my job is developing leadership talent and watching it grow and prosper,” said Ko. “I leave my current role and the Waggener Edstrom Asia Pacific board in the capable hands of Matthew Lackie, a consummate professional who has grown his share of leaders. Matt has been my strong right-hand in APAC for the last few years, and, under his guidance, I expect to see our momentum in APAC continue unabated. I am proud to call Matt a friend and partner, and have no doubt he will elevate WE APAC to a higher level of excellence.”

Formerly deputy lead of Asia-Pacific, senior vice-president Lackie joined Wag-Ed in 2008 from Text 100. He has steadily increased his responsibilities since then, quadrupling the agency’s size in Singapore, launching its Indian operation, and strengthening its digital capabilities.

“David has been the cornerstone of our APAC operations and has done an incredible job growing Waggener Edstrom’s business in this region,” said Corey Kalbfleisch, Wag-Ed chief financial officer. “He has more than earned a break to travel and see the world.”
