EXETER, UK—The UK's national weather service has hired 3 Monkeys to help it boost awareness of its products and consultancy services among potential business customers.

The Met Office, which is also responsible for the Public Weather Service, is targeting a range of sectors, including utilities, renewables, oil and gas, aviation and marine.

3 Monkeys secures the assignment following a tender that included two other agencies in the final pitch. They take over from ADPR, which previously handled the account.

According to Met Office head of communications planning Jo McLellan, 3 Monkeys will aim to help extract "maximum value from our content and find new media platforms that showcase our expertise in the application of weather and climate science in the business to business arena."

"3 Monkeys demonstrated they grasped the potential to promote our products and services more widely and to increase our profile beyond the forecasting services that most people know us for," added McLellan.

The Met Office's business services typically help industry customers to make plans based on weather and energy forecasts. These products contribute to an annual turnover of £170m.
