SINGAPORE — Mutant Communications has promoted Matthew de Bakker to country manager for Singapore, one of several personnel moves the agency has made as it eyes regional growth.

De Bakker has led Mutant’s PR business in Singapore since 2017. In that time, he helped add a string of brands and startups to the agency’s client roster, including Singapore Sports Hub, Experian APAC, Disney, and Ula, amongst others.

Lina Marican has been named regional managing director and will be responsible for launching and scaling Mutant in new and existing markets in Southeast Asia. Under Marican, who was previously managing director, Mutant has more than tripled its revenue and expanded its headcount to more than 30 across its Singapore and Malaysia offices.

In addition, Byravee Iyer, a managing editor, and Rebecca Lewis, strategic director, have been appointed to the newly created roles of head of content and brand strategy director respectively, as Mutant seeks to expand its content and brand offerings.

The promotions come on the heels of robust business in 2021, when the agency recorded 29.5% growth in revenue driven in part by its Malaysia business, which grew 50% last year. Strategic public relations and content grew organically, on top of demand for Mutant’s social media and brand services, Mutant said.

“As we head into our 10th anniversary, we have exciting plans to set-up offices in new markets, with Indonesia and the Philippines on our horizon. I am confident that Mutant’s leadership team will continue to build on our foundation of being communications partners that drive business results for our clients,” said CEO Joseph Barratt.
