LONDON — Former eBay head of communications Alex Reilly (pictured) has joined O2 (Telefónica UK) as head of external communications within the corporate affairs team.

Reilly (formerly Doorey) had been at eBay since 2015, leading on consumer campaigns with a focus on the marketplace's support of UK small businesses. Before eBay, Alex led corporate communications and sustainability at J Sainsbury.

In her new role, Reilly will oversee O2’s in-house external communications covering PR and campaigns for O2’s 5G and network stories, business, sustainability and sales activity, as well as corporate communications, financial results and the press office. She also manages the company’s relationships with PR agencies Finsbury, Hope&Glory, Teneo, Portland and Missive.

For 2020, Alex will work with the wider business as part of on the executive team, with the aim of shaping O2’s narrative, particularly across its growth areas of small business and sustainability, as well as its core areas of network and sponsorship.

After starting her career as a broadcast journalist at Sky, Reilly moved to Westminster to work in political communications, later being appointed chief of staff at Conservative campaign headquarters from 2011-2013.
