LONDON--Iain Bundred, a former spokesman for Gordon Brown, has joined Ogilvy PR to head a new strategic media practice.

Bundred, who will report to senior director Ross Cathcart, arrives at Ogilvy after his most recent stint as a government consultant in the Middle East. Prior to working at Downing Street, he was a special advisor to James Purnell, during the latter’s tenure as Secretary of State for Work and Pensions.

“With his experience at the highest level of government, Iain has a tremendous understanding of the importance of communications in shaping policy and reputation,” said Jamie Moeller, MD of Ogilvy PR’s global public affairs practice, in a statement. “Iain will be a great asset for our clients across Europe and globally who look to our London office to provide them with counsel and communications support addressing a broad range of issues.”

Bundred worked alongside Brown from 2009 until the general election. As chief spokesperson, he led briefings on coalition government negotiations in the aftermath of the last General Election.

“As the world of PR moves away from traditional silos and towards offering 360° brand reputation strategies, Ogilvy PR is able to give clients an integrated service that other PR firms couldn’t dream of and I am looking forward to being part of the firm’s worldwide growth strategy,” said Bundred in a statement.

Bundred will also work closely with new new global corporate MD Stuart Smith, who joined the firm two months ago from Hill & Knowlton.
