SAN FRANCISCO — Pinterest has consolidated its marketing and external comms functions under Andréa Mallard, the platform's CMO for the last four years.

In her newly expanded role of chief marketing and communications officer, Mallard will oversee the alignment of Pinterest’s communications channels and new strategic initiatives. Mallard plans to hire a VP of communications to lead the comms team, Pinterest said.

While external communications will be under Mallard’s watch, the platform’s people team is now responsible for internal comms.

The restructuring comes on the heels of former CCO LeMia Jenkins being promoted to Pinterest’s first chief public affairs and sustainability officer.

Since joining Pinterest as its first CMO in 2018, Mallard has handled marketing efforts around the platform’s 2019 IPO, the Covid pandemic and brand campaigns. The platform has more than 400 million active monthly users.

Before Pinterest, Mallard served as CMO of Athleta and Omada Health.

“Both marketers and communications pros are storytellers, and I see a huge opportunity to combine those efforts in fresh, new ways this year,” Mallard said. “We have an incredibly positive story to share at Pinterest, and I’m grateful and humbled to lead this all-star team.”
