SAN FRANCISCO — Rebecca Hahn has joined Twitter to lead global communications, assuming the job in midst of the social giant’s high-profile battle with Elon Musk.

Hahn, whose appointment as VP of global communications was first reported by Axios, joins from Bird, where she served as the scooter-sharing company’s first chief communications officer. She spent a decade as an Outcast partner before joining Bird as senior VP of communications and public affairs in 2018.

Hahn reports to CMO Leslie Berland, who has been handling communications on an interim basis since Kelly Sims left the company in November after a four-month stint. Sims is currently a Thrive Capital partner.

Hahn’s move comes as Twitter escalates its battle with Musk, who last week said he wants out of his $44 billion deal to acquire the platform, alleging that Twitter was in “material breach” of multiple provisions of the agreement.

Twitter, in turn, on Tuesday filed a lawsuit against Musk aimed at forcing him to follow through on the acquisition.
