SAN FRANCISCO — Sutherlandgold Group has acquired digital marketing firm Astro Media for an undisclosed sum, boosting the agency’s expertise in data, measurement and digital content creation and distribution.

Astro Media founder Rachelle Spero will join Sutherlandgold as chief innovation officer and executive VP. She will be based in New York.

Before setting up Astro Media in 2010, Spero was a Brunswick Group partner and an executive VP at Cohn & Wolfe.

Sutherlandgold co-founder and CEO Lesley Gold (pictured) said buying Astro Media was a major step in the growth of the agency: “We’ve been building stories for some of the country’s fastest growing companies for almost two decades. Acquiring Astro Media and bringing on Rachelle will allow us to enhance the creativity people expect from Sutherlandgold with data, measurement, and audience-driven content."

She added: “Today, every executive is expected to champion their company’s story across digital channels. We want to make sure they invest their time wisely and energize their communities.”
