More and more companies have been combining their marketing and corporate communications functions in recent years, but few communications executives have a portfolio quite as broad as the one Thomas Buckmaster oversees at Honeywell. In his role as vice president of corporate communications, Buckmaster is responsible for global advertising, branding and communications and also serves as president of Honeywell Hometown Solutions, the company’s philanthropic and community relations initiative.

In more than a decade at Honeywell, Buckmaster has been responsible for establishing corporate communications as a truly global function, and a true business partner with the company’s operating units, creating and sustaining measurable commercial value. For that alone, he is a worthy recipient of one of this year’s SABRE Awards for Outstanding Individual Achievement.

But he has also established the Honeywell Hometown Solutions community outreach effort as one of the most effective in the country, combining financial support and volunteerism to address community needs in areas where the company can deliver unique expertise: math and science education, housing and shelter, family safety and security, habitat and conservation, and humanitarian relief. The effort has won SABRE Awards of its own in 2010, 2009, 2008 and 2005.

His other accomplishments at Honeywell include the repositioning of the company’s brand and supporting advertising standards, implementing a contemporary universal web strategy, the development and execution of an employee value proposition. Those initiatives led to improved brand awareness and alignment, enhanced employee engagement, and productivity-improvements. He has also championed public affairs programs on topics ranging from energy efficiency to homeland security and globalization.

In 2006 Tom was recognized for this body of work with the Honeywell Senior Leadership Award, the company’s top honor.

Before joining Honeywell, Buckmaster served in senior leadership positions in several of the world’s leading public relations agencies, including president of Edelman PR New York, executive vice president and general manager of Hill and Knowlton’s Washington office and a senior partner of Fleishman Hillard.
