WASHINGTON, DC—Two best-selling business authors have joined the speaker lineup for PRovoke Global, our annual global public relations summit. Veteran PR executive Marian Salzman is the author of Buzz: Harness the Power of Influence and Create Demand, Agile PR, and most recently The New Megatrends: Seeing Clearly in the Age of Disruption. Attorney and consultant Katharine Manning is the author of The Empathetic Workplace: Five Steps to a Compassionate, Calm, and Confident Response to Trauma on the Job.

Manning is president of Blackbird DC and a senior attorney advisor with the Executive Office for United States Attorneys. She advised on the Boston Marathon bombing, the Pulse nightclub and South Carolina AME church shootings, the uprising in Charlottesville, the Madoff investment fraud, and the federal case against Larry Nassar, doctor for the US Women’s Olympic Gymnastics team, among others.

At PRovoke Global, she will feature on a panel sponsored by Ketchum focused on “How to Create Trauma-Informed Workplaces and Work” alongside Susan Gurley, who is the executive director of the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, a non-profit international mental health association, and Jim Joseph, US chief executive and global chief marketing officer for Ketchum.

During her PR career, spanning both agency and corporate worlds, Salzman has worked with clients including Nike, Levi Strauss, SAB Miller, Pizza Hut, Reckitt Benckiser, and Estée Lauder. Among other things, she identified and counted the term “metrosexual” and was a driving force behind the creation of #GivingTuesday, working with the United Nations Foundation and New York City’s 92nd Street Y. she currently leads global communications for PMI, based in Switzerland.

Salzman will feature in conversation with PRovoke founder Paul Holmes and Red Havas chief executive James Wright, discussing the way events of the past few years—from a global pandemic to polarizing politics to protests over systemic social injustice and inequity—are shaping and reshaping how we live, work, and interact with each other and with brands.

Manning and Salzman will join a lineup of high-profuile speakers that includes Jen Psaki, who recently joined MSNBC after serving as President Biden’s first press secretary during 2021 and 2022, and journalist and best-selling author Frank Bruni, who spent more than 25 years at The New York Times.
