OAKLAND, CA —Visa’s Will Valentine has been hired to lead communications for streaming music provider Pandora.

Valentine fills the role left vacant by former VP of communications Eric Brown, who departed the music company after a four-month stint to become GM of integrated communications at Skype. Valentine will  start in July.

He joins Pandora after more than a decade at Visa, most recently as head of global corporate media relations and digital communications. It is thought he will report into CMO Simon Fleming-Wood.

While Pandora is among the streaming music market leaders, the public company has confronted a slew of issues recently, including a leadership shake-up. In March, its CEO Joe Kennedy announced that after 10 years with the company, he plans to step down after his replacement is named.

The service has faced increased competition from players like Spotify and the newly-launched iTunes Radio service that Apple announced last week.
