CHICAGO — Subway, amid a push to turn around its business, has named Current Global its new global public relations agency of record following a competitive pitch.

The IPG-owned Current Global is charged with supporting Subway’s corporate reputation and drive consumer PR. Subway previously worked with Ruder Finn.

The sandwich chain, which has more than 41,000 stores in 100-plus countries, has hired Current Global amidst a larger turnaround plan that focuses on strategic growth and elevating the brand among consumers. Subway sales have declined every year since 2014, prompting the closure of more than 1,000 stores.

“We wanted an agency partner that aligns with our brand vision to operate as a true extension of our internal team," said Subway’s VP of communications and public relations Michele DiNello. "Current Global is working seamlessly across all communications from corporate narrative to consumer storytelling to help us highlight the amazing work of our brand and people. Current Global also understands the importance of challenging us with bold thinking and strategic creative that will keep us relevant on the national and global stage.”
