SVP, Communications & Public Policy
Uber
US

So prominent were the reputation challenges facing Uber in 2022, that Jill Hazelbaker’s role in shifting the narrative about the ride-sharing app was deemed worthy of a profile in the New York Times—an unusual level of recognition for any communications exec. But it was clear recognition of the public relations challenges the company faced—on issues ranging from driver pay to passenger safety—and of the breadth of Hazelbaker’s role, spanning marketing and public policy.

Before joining Uber in 2015, Hazelbaker led communications and public policy at Snap Inc, and also worked for Google, where she led communications across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

She began her career in US politics, having held leadership roles on many local, state, and federal election campaigns. In 2009, Hazelbaker served as press secretary to New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg during his successful re-election campaign. In 2008, she was the national communications director and chief spokesperson for Senator John McCain’s presidential campaign. Hazelbaker currently sits on the board of trustees for the McCain Institute.
