South Africa’s MTN is Africa’s largest mobile operator and, as such, plays an outsized role in terms of connecting a vast network of 18 very different markets across the continent. Since 2022, Nompilo Morafo has been in charge of the company’s ESG strategy as group chief sustainability and corporate affairs officer, focusing specifically on decarbonising; rural connectivity; greater diversity and inclusion; enhanced stakeholder management; and protecting digital human rights.
Morafo joined MTN in 2019 from building materials giant LafargeHolcim, where she was the country director for communications, public affairs and sustainable development. Prior to this, Morafo was based in Mozambique as VP for energy and chemicals firm Sasol’s international exploration and production business across various countries.
