EMERYVILLE, CA —Clif Bar & Company has moved its PR business to Edible, Edelman’s specialty food and beverage agency, ending a five-year partnership with Golin, PRovoke Media has learned.

A spokesperson confirmed that the energy bar and drink company hired Edible as its PR agency late last year, but would not elaborate further.

Clif Bar has worked with Golin since 2015, when it consolidated its PR business with the firm. Golin handled Clif Bar’s corporate and brand work.

A Golin representative declined to comment.

A privately held company, Clif Bar dates back to 1992, when it launched its namesake product. Today, Clif Bar also produces Luna bars, fruit ropes and energy drink mixes.

Last April, founder Gary Erickson walked away from a deal to sell the company to Quaker Oats for $120 million, leaving Clif Bar $60 million in debt. Since then, Clif Bar has doubled down on its commitment to sustainability and community service, which played a role in Erickson rejecting the Quaker deal.
