DETROIT – General Motors has tapped Google’s Lin-Hua Wu to fill its top comms job, succeeding Craig Buchholz, who left the automaker in May after a three-year stint.

As senior VP and chief communications officer, Wu will oversee GM’s global communications function starting Aug. 23. She will report to chair and CEO Mary Barra.

Wu will be joining GM from Google, where she has served as VP of global communications & public affairs since 2021, supporting the knowledge & information and global business organizations. Google this summer is also losing global comms leader Corey duBrowa, who will be BCW’s new CEO starting in August.

Before Google, Wu spent five years at Dropbox, where she served as CCO. Before Dropbox, she was head of corporate communications for Square (now Block).

“Lin-Hua’s broad experience and background will help drive more effective internal and external communications around our EV transformation and accelerated growth strategy,” Barra said. “Her extensive technology and Silicon Valley experience is the perfect fit for communicating our story as a technology-driven company that enables a world with zero crashes, zero emissions and zero congestion.”

Wu will be filling a role that has been vacant since Buchholz left earlier this year. Buchholz joined GM in 2020, replacing retired auto industry vet Tony Cervone, from P&G, where he served as CCO.
