CAMBRIDGE — IBM has brought on Angela Calman as vice president of communications for Watson Health.

Calman will fill the position in September and is tasked with leading global communications for the company, spanning social communications, external and influencer relations and internal IBM engagement.

She will report to Steve Tomasco, vice president, global external communications for IBM and all of the company's solutions businesses. Her hire follows the arrival of Michael Mendenhall as CMO and CCO of IBM Watson and Cloud Platform.

Calman makes the move to IBM after three years as VP of communications at 23andMe, a direct-to-consumer personal genetic testing service. Prior to that, she was vice president of communications and senior media advisor at Intuitive Surgical for more two years.

Calman also spent one year as EVP and director of health media at Weber Shandwick, and nearly four years at Edelman as SVP, national health media relations. She served as the chief communications officer for the Cleveland Clinic before that.
