BUFFALO, NY — M&T Bank has promoted Maya Dillon to head of corporate communications.

In the newly created role, Dillon will lead external communications for M&T and its subsidiary Wilmington Trust. Dillon had been serving as the latter’s corporate comms head since joining the company from UBS in 2018.

Dillon’s remit includes working with M&T’s comms and marketing teams to drive brand awareness and overall external communications, as well as oversee media relations, social media, and executive communications.  She reports to chief marketing and communications officer Francesco Lagutaine.

Earlier this year, Dillon handled communications around the announcement of M&T's $7 billion deal to acquire People's United Financial. Once completed, the merger will create the 11th largest commercial bank in the US with approximately $200 billion in assets.

She also leads communications for sponsorship initiatives, ranging from community programming with The Alvin Ailey Dance Company and The Shed to partnerships with the likes of The Council on Foreign Relations and The New York Economic Club.

The creation of Dillon’s position is part of M&T’s larger streamlining of its internal, external and brand communications functions as a means of boosting its engagement with customers and other stakeholders.
