TOKYO — Michel Mommejat has exited FleishmanHillard after 16 months to return to the advertising world at McCann Japan.

Mommejat, who joined Fleishman last year to oversee Asia-Pacific digital, becomes MD of digital, data and technology at McCann. His 16-month stint at Fleishman came after he spent eight years with Wunderman.

At Fleishman, Mommejat was also charged with rolling out the firm's ContentWorks unit in Asia-Pacific. Earlier this month, the firm announced new senior appointments for its digital and content operations, in Japan, Southeast Asia and Hong Kong.

Previously, Mommejat was a founding member of the Tokyo office of TBWA’s digital and direct offering Tequila, now known as Digital Arts Network.

His appointment is the first time McCann has hired a digital lead in Japan, and comes soon after the IPG network hired its first head of digital for the Singapore office, hiring an executive from a digital agency in Canada.

In a statement announcing his appointment, the co-chairman of McCann Japan, Hiroshi Namiki, said: “As digital is fundamental in all communication, Michel’s broad and rich experience, spanning from activation to data management, will be a major asset for McCann Worldgoup Japan.”
