NEWARK, NJ — Prudential Financial has promoted Alan Sexton to chief communications officer, three years after he joined the financial services company to head global communications strategy.

In the role, Sexton is responsible for leading the company’s recently integrated communications function, which handles comms for the parent company and its subsidiaries. He also is charged with boosting and managing the company’s reputation around the world.

Sexton replaces Lauren Day, who stepped down form the role last month and is pursuing new opportunities, a spokesperson said. He reports to Prudential’s vice chair, Rob Falzon.

Sexton joined Prudential in 2018 to lead communications for Prudential’s domestic and international businesses, including its global asset management arm, PGIM, while also serving as head of strategy for the communications function.

Before that, Sexton chaired Burson-Marsteller’s corporate and financial practice, and was the firm’s New York market leader. Before joining Burson in 2013, held a range of positions at Global Strategy Group, Ogilvy and Harbour Group among others.
