WASHINGTON — Public affairs firm Subject Matter+Kivvit, which was created last May with the merger of the namesake agencies, has formally reorganized into a singular entity, named Avoq.

Avoq (pronounced uh-voke) puts Subject Matter+Kivvit’s strategic communications, advocacy and creative abilities under the one national advocacy and communications firm brand.

The company has more than 200 employees in five cities with expertise in advertising, public affairs, strategic communications, media relations, government relations, digital strategy, narrative building, website and app development, research and data analytics.

Avoq also promoted 14 team members to partner. The new partners are Stacey Alexander, Whit Askew, Joy Burks, Maura Farrell, Cedric Grant, Sarah Hamilton, Kent Holland, Barry LaSala, Sophie McCarthy, Tom Meara, Dianne Mikeska, Kevin Richards, John Siniff and Adam Steinberger.

Nicole Cornish will continue as the firm’s CEO. Other Avoq officers include Molly Scherrman as COO, Dave Metzger as CFO, and Steve Elmendorf, Paul Frick, Jimmy Ryan, Dan Sallick and Eric Sedler as managing partners.

“Avoq is more than just a name change. It’s the successful creation of a nationwide integrated communications platform from which we can offer the best service in all disciplines,” said Cornish. “The new partners represent the diverse set of experts who have shaped the history and the culture of who we are today and will help me drive the kind of firm we need to be in the future. Lots of shared pride for us today and I’m looking forward to what’s next.”

The rebrand comes less than a year after Kivvit and Subject Matter announced that they’d be merging to create a new national agency with a team of 200 and fee income of close to $100 million. The new business was formally known as Subject Matter+Kivvit, but the two firms continued to operate under their original brands in the short term.

Kivvit has long been known for data-driven insights that fuel large-scale digital advertising campaigns and communications strategy for clients in finance, higher education, energy, and health care. Subject Matter boasts one of Washington’s leading bipartisan government relations teams and an expansive creative advocacy capability that supports clients across public health, finance, education, technology, communications, and transportation.
