MILFORD, CT — Subway has expanded its PR team with the addition of corporate, field, brand and multimedia leaders, part of the sandwich chain’s larger strategy of building out its communications function.

The new hires are Alyssa Goldfarb, Brad Simon, Trent Stafford, and Rafael Sangiovanni who will lead corporate communications, brand PR, field communications and multimedia services respectively.

Goldfarb joins Subway with more than 15 years of experience in corporate communications, working most recently as director of communications and public relations for MSC Cruises. Simon comes to Subway from Inspire Brands, where he oversaw brand communications strategy and led the organization's international communications.

Stafford brings franchise industry experience from McDonald’s, where he spent four years on the communications and brand engagement team. Sangiovanni joins with more than a decade of digital production experience at the integrated marketing agency rbb Communications, where he spearheaded, strategized and produced a variety of digital activations.

“As we embark on a quest to build a better Subway, we’ve reimagined the communications function to best serve the brand’s transformation,” said communications head Lorri Christou. “In addition to welcoming a talented team of communication leaders, the new team enables us to be better storytellers, better educators, and create better connections with our vast franchisee network, guests and employees.”

The team’s expansion comes roughly six months after Christou joined Subway as VP of public relations, communications, and public affairs from Choice Hotels International. Christou (pictured) did not replace anyone at Subway but came onboard as part of the chain’s larger effort to expand its storytelling capabilities.

Late last year, Subway has also made changes in its PR agency partnerships. In October, the company handed Current Global its global PR business, which previously was handled by Ruder Finn. In November, Subway hired Taylor Herring for its UK consumer account and MSL for its EMEA corporate brief.
