LONDON— Simon Sproule is leaving Tesla after several months as head of comms and marketing to join luxury car maker Aston Martin as CMO.

In March, Sproule left Nissan to join electric car darling Tesla. The move ended Sproule's more than a decade run with the Japanese carmaker, broken only by a two-month stint at Microsoft. Most recently, Sproule was corporate VP of marketing communications for Nissan and its alliance with Renault. This month, Andy Palmer — also from Nissan — took over as CEO as Aston Martin.

Sproule relocated from Yokohama to the Bay Area for the combined comms and marketing leadership role that was effectively a new one at Tesla. But he’s one of a few comms leaders who have cycled through Tesla in recent years.

Before Sproule, Sarah Bruning Meron — now at Yahoo — held the top comms job at the company for four months in 2013. From 2009 to 2012, Square’s head of brand Ricardo Reyes led communications through Tesla’s 2010 IPO, including managing IR responsibilities and the launch of the Model S and Model X.
