SAN ANTONIO, TX — USAA, the financial services group serving military families, has expanded communications head Lindsey O’Neill’s role to include oversight of the company’s corporate responsibility function.

In the senior VP role, O’Neill will now have The USAA Foundation and The USAA Educational Foundation under her purview. She will focus on outreach, support and advocacy for military families.

O’Neill was named chief communications officer in 2020. O’Neill has been with USAA since 2014, holding senior roles in corporate, external and internal communications before serving as chief of staff to the CEO. She led National Instruments global communications before joining USAA, which provides insurance, banking and investment products to more than 13 million members.

In addition, Tara Leweling, who joined USAA earlier this year to lead ESG, will serve in an expanded role as VP and chief diversity and sustainability officer. She will lead enterprise-wide diversity, inclusion and sustainability initiatives.

Both executives will report to chef strategy and brand officer Ameesh Vakharia.

“There is significant purpose in the work that our employees carry out every day serving military families,” said Vakharia. “I’m excited to broaden Lindsey and Tara’s roles on my leadership team because they bring incredible experience and passionate leadership. We have a unique opportunity through these concentrated efforts to make an even greater impact on the financial security of the military community as USAA embarks on its second century of service.”
