RESTON, VA — Tech company Verisign has named H+K Strategies its public relations agency of record, PRovoke Media can reveal.

A Verisign spokesperson confirmed that H+K will be handling the full range of PR duties for the company, which operates the .com and .net domain names and network infrastructure. Verisign has formally partnered with H+K’s North American operation, although the firm will be handling some international business as well, the rep said.

H+K won the business in a competitive pitch.

Weber Shandwick was among Verisign’s most recent agency partners, having handled the company’s global PR business for the better part of a decade. Text100 (now known as Archetype) also represented Verisign in various regions.

Teaming up with H+K is Verisign’s first major agency move under the watch of David McGuire, who joined the company as head of strategic communications in September. McGuire assumed the position after spending four-plus years at Comcast as senior director of tech communications.

Founded 25 years ago, Verisign started as an identity and authentication company, but sold that part of the business to Symantec in 2010. Since then, the company has focused on managing domain name registry services and digital infrastructure.
