Bite has begun working with word processing app Quip in Europe, supporting the startup's rollout across numerous markets in the region.
Led by ex-Facebook CTO Bret Taylor and Google Suggest creator Kevin Gibbs, Quip is hoping to transform how word processors are used on touchscreen devices such as tablets and smartphones. The freemium app has already drawn strong reviews in the US, which Bite is hoping to replicate in the UK and continental Europe.
Bite, says director Jon Silk, has supported Quip in the UK, France and Germany, with sister firm Text 100 covering Italy and Spain. "Bret and Kevin are two of the web’s biggest thinkers, and once we’d used the product we realised what a different proposition it was," says Silk. "We love disruptive companies who aren’t afraid to break new ground, and the Quip team epitomises that attitude.”
The new account builds on Bite's startup business in Europe. The firm has also begun working on Kaldor, a company that creates hybrid apps for publishers to deliver digital content across mobile platforms. Used by such titles as Grazia, The Week, and Newsweek, the company hired Bite following a four-way pitch, and is aiming to build its corporate and brand reputation.
As Bite account lead Rachel Gilley points out "the publishing industry is flux". She is not wrong, and both of these new accounts speak to the technological disruption that is impacting companies across the media spectrum. As Gilley notes, there are "plenty of opportunities for forward-thinking companies to innovate and embrace change."
