CANNES: The 2017 Cannes Lions has released its shortlist for the PR Lions category, ahead of announcing the winners tomorrow night.

228 entries have been shortlisted, down from 239 last year. The crediting process has been altered this year, to identify the 'idea creation' agency along with agencies that handled production, media and PR. 

In terms of the 'idea creation', designation, the shortlist is once again dominated by ad agencies. Edelman is credited four times for idea creation, while Ketchum — including Brazilian subsidiary Little George — and Weber Shandwick each notch up three.  

Including agencies credited for handling PR, Ketchum is shortlisted a further 17 times, ahead of Edelman (six more), MSLGroup and Current (four more) and Weber Shandwick (three more).

Last year, just two PR firms were credited as 'primary entrants' among the Gold Lio winners.
