CHARLOTTE, NC – Fortune 150 energy holding company Duke Energy has named Oscar Suris as its new chief communications officer, replacing Selim Bingol, who retired last month.

Suris returns to in-house corporate communications after four years at Edelman – where he had served as president of Edelman New York for the past year – and at sister agency Zeno Group, where he was executive managing director for crisis and C-suite strategies. Margot Edelman has been announced as his successor at Edelman New York.

He was previously head of corporate communications at Wells Fargo & Company for nine years, and also held senior leadership roles at Ford Motor Company and AutoNation. Suris started his career as a journalist, including five years as a staff reporter for The Wall Street Journal.

In his new SVP role, Suris will lead the development of communications strategies that advance the firm’s brand and support its clean energy transition. This will include overseeing media relations, executive communications, employee communications, social media, advertising, issues management and business unit support.

Suris will assume his new role in mid-May and report to Louis Renjel, executive vice president of external affairs and communications. Renjel said: “Our customers are depending on us to deliver reliable, affordable and increasingly clean energy. Meeting those customer expectations requires that we collaborate with our many stakeholders, and transparent and proactive communication is a foundational element of that collaboration. Oscar has a well-established record of helping drive major transformation through his leadership and external affairs expertise."
