LONDON—Mobile virtual network operator Lycamobile has called in Chime agencies Harvard and Essentially to oversee PR and sponsorship strategy in the UK.

The assignment comes as the UK company aims to grow its global subscriber base by 25 per cent over the next 12 months.

The Chime agencies secure the brief following a competitive review. Lycamobile has previously worked with Eulogy.

Lycamobile currently has 12 million subscribers in 18 countries, thanks to its focus on international low-cost calling, and has hinted that it may launch a digital service like Whatsapp or Viber.

Harvard is tasked with managing Lycamobile’s corporate image and raising awareness of its consumer products and promotions. Essentially, meanwhile, will create awareness and media opportunities around the company’s sponsorship of West Ham United, Test match cricket grounds, Surrey CCC, Powerboat P1 and The British Asian Trust.

"The team showed a thorough understanding of our mission – to connect customers with their loved ones across oceans, borders and networks – as well as our market opportunities and challenges," said Lycamobile chairman Subaskaran Allirajah.

Founded in 2006, Lycamobile reported a turnover of €1.5bn in 2014. The company has faced media scrutiny over its tax arrangements and links to the Conservative Party.
