LONDON — Ookla, the firm behind the Speedtest and Downdetector network speed testing and connectivity analysis apps, has appointed B2B technology specialist CCgroup as its strategic communications partner in the UK.

As well as its two flagship consumer products, Ookla – which is owned by $1.4 billion digital media and internet company Ziff Davis – provides network performance insights to enterprise telecoms and internet service providers around the world through its Rootmetrics and Spatialbuzz platforms. Ookla has recently bought a number of related companies, including CellRebel, which helps operators and other telecommunications companies improve mobile networks.

CCgroup’s remit is to deliver an integrated PR and analyst relations programme to position Ookla as a leading provider of network insights, targeting B2B audiences through influencer relations and activity around awards and industry events such as Mobile World Congress.

Ookla’s senior vice president of marketing and communications, Adriane Blum, said: “We’re at an exciting inflection point in Ookla’s communications journey. Following several key acquisitions, it is important that we clearly articulate the value that Ookla’s modern portfolio brings to the telecommunications industry and their customers.

“We wanted to collaborate with a communications partner that could position our unique capabilities, has deep awareness and understanding of the telecoms landscape, with strong ties to influencers across the market. CCgroup was the natural partner for us, and we’re looking forward to our strategic partnership with the consultancy as they support the next phase of Ookla’s journey.”

CCgroup’s head of mobile and telecoms Anaïs Merlin added: “With 5G becoming a firm reality, this is a really exciting time for the telecoms industry. Arguably, network insights and intelligence are more important than ever as communications service providers focus on the network experience they provide to their customers. We are honoured and excited to be working with Ookla to help evolve its story as it grows its proposition, and help to cement Ookla’s position as the UK leader in network intelligence.”
